Social & Environmental Responsibility

INFRASTRUCTURE

We are committed to sustainable design and build – 60 per cent of the 2000 tonnes of steel used in the construction of the ArcelorMittal Orbit came from scrap metal. The Last Drop building was designed to achieve a high building sustainability rating. We have an environmental management system, ISO 14001, and strive for continuous improvement. The grounds around the ArcelorMittal Orbit are watered with harvested rainwater from the centralised pumping station in the Park.

OPERATIONS

To minimise the environmental impact of our catering services we use sustainable products, including locally supplied and Fairtrade, wherever possible. We will work with the catering and events team to maximise recycling.

Our merchandise partner has an ethical sourcing policy that includes a commitment to comply with International Labour Organisation standards, and only to source from suppliers who do the same. In addition they have an environmental policy aligned to our own.

We offer meaningful career opportunities to people from all walks of life with a great variety of flexible full- and part-time roles. These opportunities have been designed to suit the local community, and add to the legacy of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. All staff start on the London Living Wage and there are opportunities for staff progression.

85 per cent of front-line staff are employed are from the Olympic Host Boroughs, and we work with welfare to work schemes to ensure access to employment opportunities for local jobseekers. Our target is to maximise the use of Small/Medium Enterprises in the area to deliver outsourced service elements. Discounted entry is available to local residents.
